When the COVID pandemic started, I thought, as many people did, that as the developments proceeded, we’d have a clear picture of what’s happening and what solutions will be put into place. Here we are, months later, wondering what will happen next, with neither a solution at hand or on the horizon.
As regards COVID, every day information is delivered to us in every kind of form available; it isn’t possible to avoid the media deluge for even one minute. Yet, even through this fire hose of information, I honestly don’t know who and what to believe in.
While I don’t watch much television, I am a lifelong reader of everything; from national and international online newspapers to an extensive range of magazines, books, and journals. I look for meaningful, helpful information, stuff that I feel will make a difference in my life and the lives of others.
So far, in my opinion, I don’t see or read anything revelatory; ofttimes, an announcement is made, only to be refuted quickly, to be replaced by another breaking news story. I don’t want just another news story; I want someone to step forward to take full command; be decisive, respected, and unconcerned about his or her National approval ratings.
Until that person emerges, I am reminded of a favorite quote from Yogi Berra: “If you don’t know where you are going, you might end up somewhere else.”
That’s as close to the truth as anything else I’ve seen.
