As everyone knows by now, Sir Sean passed away several days ago; I was thinking of another memory I have of him. Several years ago I was visiting the Lyford Cay Club in Nassau, Bahamas; this is where Sir Sean lived (and where he died.)
As my friend and I were driving around, we passed one of the houses with a lovely garden, painted in pastel colors. It wasn’t on the beach and, it was somewhat modest in size. This was his house; a reflection on the man and his rather humble beginnings. I liked that.
How Sir Sean Connery made it from placing 3rd in a Mr. Universe competition to becoming “James Bond” is a success story for the ages. He once said: “some age, others mature.” This pretty well summarizes his story.
As Commander James Bond, Royal Navy, (007) he launched his incredible run; he played “Dr No” in 1962, giving the world its first shaken, not stirred vodka martini.
While there have been other “James Bond” actors, Sean Connery was the one who best delivered on the images Ian Fleming had in mind when he wrote the books. Some of the stunts and scenes in his movies were pretty ridiculous, but hey, he was agent 007, and no one could criticize him.
So, my friends, today let’s all wish Sir Sean a very happy birthday!
